Chapter 30: Engaged and Enraged
They treated me first. After some X-rays, they told me my middle and ring fingers were fractured. Each finger was braced, and they told me to come back in three weeks.
By the time I was done, Josh had already been called in. The room was filled with hospital beds and curtain dividers. I spotted him sitting down, holding his arm, looking completely pitiful, like a sad little puppy. My chest ached just seeing him like that. I walked over and gave him a hug and a kiss.
“You’re done already?”
“Yeah. Three weeks.” I raised my braced fingers to show him.
“I’m so sorry this happened… everything was perfect until this.”
“You don’t have to be sorry at all. I wouldn’t change a thing. It was the perfect proposal. And, come on, this is going to make one hell of a story.”
He let out a weak laugh. “Pfft… I guess you’re right.”
Josh wrapped one arm around my waist and rested his head on my stomach.
“We’re fiancés now. I’m so damn happy,” he mumbled.
I chuckled. “It’s crazy to think that you’ll be my husband soon.”
He took my uninjured hand in his.
“I can’t fucking wait. Let’s get married tomorrow.”
“What?! Are you crazy? Tomorrow’s no good. I’ve got plans.”
“Come oooon, I want to be married to you already! If not tomorrow, then next week. I’ll make an appointment with City Hall.”
“Seriously? No way. Let’s talk about it when we’re out of here. Besides, don’t you want to gloat to the world that you’re an engaged man now?”
“I do, but more than that, I just want to start my life with you. I want to build our family.”
“…Wait. Does that mean you want kids?”
He opened his mouth to answer, but we were interrupted by a nurse.
“I knew it was you!” she said brightly, speaking directly to Josh.
“I saw your name on the chart, but I wasn’t sure it was really you.”
I looked at her, confused, then turned to Josh. He looked pale, two shades lighter than usual. His lips trembled.
“O-Oh… hello…”
She walked straight over to him, ignoring me entirely, and what the actual hell, she kissed him on the forehead. Josh’s face lit up with a sincere smile. A red blush spread across his cheeks.
What. The. Hell.
She was stunning, fit, even in those pink scrubs. I could tell instantly that she was his type. That pissed me off even more. The kiss was totally uncalled for, and why was he looking at her with those big, soft puppy eyes? The same look he gave me? I was supposed to just stand there and watch this? I’m his fiancé.
“You look amazing, Big Bear! You look hot!”
Excuse me? Big Bear? Hot?
Okay. Guess I’m going to jail today.
“Ahem… And you are?” I asked, my tone sharp.
“Oh! Hi there! I’m Cece.”
“…Cece? As in Josh’s ex, that Cece?”
She turned to Josh again, ignoring me completely.
“I guess you’ve been talking about me, huh?” she said, smugly.
“You-you came up in conversation once or twice,” Josh mumbled, clearly awkward.
“I’m kinda glad to hear that, actually. Lately, I’ve been thinking about reaching out. But here you are. I guess it was meant to be.”
Her expression said it all. She was flirting. And this piece of shit wasn’t doing a damn thing to stop her. I stood there, blood boiling.
“I was thinking… if you have some time tomorrow, maybe we could meet up. I’ll buy my Big Bear a nice dinner.”
That was it. I was about to lose it.
Josh finally spoke up, “Cece, I don’t think I can. This is Sean… my fiancé.”
He glanced at me, immediately catching how pissed I was. He grabbed my hand and kissed it. The look on her face was priceless. Ha. Guess that little dinner date is off.
I sat next to Josh and laced our fingers together.
Cece stammered, “Oh- shoot, I’m sorry. I-I didn’t mean to… I was just-”
“It’s okay,” I said, smiling sweetly. “I’m sure you’re just surprised Josh is engaged to a man.”
“I mean… yes,” she admitted, rubbing the back of her neck.
Josh grinned. “We just got engaged tonight, actually. But my dumbass fell and landed on my shoulder. And I dragged my precious love down with me trying to break the fall. Our perfect night turned into chaos.”
Cece nodded. “I see… Well, congratulations on your engagement.”
“Thank you! I guess you’re the first person we’ve told, haha.”
“I can’t believe it… I’m happy for you two.” She smiled, professional now. “Let me get started on your vitals so you can get out of here and back to celebrating.”
The rest of the visit dragged on. X-rays, a shoulder reduction… Thankfully, nothing too serious. By the time we were discharged, we were both exhausted. My mind kept replaying the encounter with Cece. The audacity she had to ask Josh out, like she hadn’t shattered him once before. How could anyone do that to someone as kind and loyal as him? But in a strange way, I was almost… grateful. If she hadn’t cheated, Josh might’ve stayed with her. He might never have grown close to Tyler. And if that hadn’t happened, I never would’ve met him at all.
Once we got back to the car, we sat in silence. I climbed into the driver’s seat.
“Haha… Tonight was something, huh?” I said, breaking the quiet.
“Tonight was the best night of my life. Until we get married, of course.”
I glanced at him, a tired, beautiful mess.
“You look sexy in that sling.”
“Oh yeah? Come here and French your fiancé if I’m that sexy.”
I leaned over and kissed him, tongue first. Things escalated quickly. His free hand slipped under my shirt, trailing down into my pants, grabbing a firm hold of my ass. I groaned. Even injured, he was insatiable.
With my braced hand, I rubbed his cock over his pants. He wasn’t hard yet, but I could already feel the thick weight of him. I carefully climbed into his lap and adjusted the seat.
“Wait, babe,” he whispered. “Not here. Someone might see us.”
“I know… I just want to rub my ass on your cock a little.”
“…Alright. Continue.”
We kissed as I ground down onto him. My hole was twitching with need. I reached into his pants and pulled out his cock, already hard and dripping precum. The squelching noise as I stroked him made my mouth water. I pushed the seat back more and kneeled between his legs, tight space be damned.
I licked up every drop of precum before sliding him into my mouth. Josh groaned. Loud. His breathing was ragged.
“Ngh! Fuck… ha… ha… Sorry, babe… That felt so good.”
Gulp.
“Did you just swallow that?!”
“Cough Yup.”
“Why? You don’t like the taste.”
“I didn’t have anywhere to spit. It wasn’t bad.”
“Let me see.”
He placed his thumb on my tongue. I nibbled on it.
“You like my cum now, huh? I’ll make sure to feed you more from now on. Let’s go home, so I can feed your hole too.”
We couldn’t keep our hands off each other in the car. We kissed at every red light. He stroked me as I drove. By the time we reached the elevator, we were already groping again.
That night turned into early morning. We made love. It wasn’t wild or frenzied. It was slow, intentional, emotional. Just one round, short and sweet. Perfect.
The next morning, I woke up first. Josh never oversleeps. He must’ve been really exhausted.
I slipped out of bed and found the jacket I was wearing the night before. I fished out the ring, it was stunning. I never imagined myself wearing an engagement ring, yet here I was. I obviously knew I’d be with Josh forever, but this made it real. Since I couldn’t wear it on my injured hand, I slipped it on the other. That’d have to do for now.
I decided to cook breakfast for him, simple, but made with love.
By ten, I figured I had to wake him or he’d be grumpy.
“Wake up, sleepyhead,” I said, hitting him with a pillow.
He groaned. “Ugh… What time is it?”
“It’s twelve.”
“What?!” He shot up.
“I’m just kidding. It’s ten.”
“What the hell… how did I sleep so long?”
“Don’t worry. One time won’t kill you.”
I fed him bites of food, the way he likes to do for me. We finally talked about the future. We agreed to get married after we bought a house. Josh wanted to start house-hunting right away. The wedding? Just the two of us and our witnesses.
Then we talked about kids.
“What?! You don’t want kids?” he asked, shocked.
“I didn’t say that. I just need more time to think about it.”
“Well, I want two.”
“Why so many? One should be enough.”
“One would be lonely. They need a sibling.”
“Having a sibling isn’t always great. Mine sucks.”
“Well, mine are amazing… well, sometimes.”
I smirked. “Speaking of family, when are you going to tell them? They don’t even know about me. They’re going to flip when they find out you’re engaged.”
“Oh, about that… They already know. They even texted me last night asking how it went. See?”
He pulled up his phone and showed me a group chat with tons of messages.
“When did you tell them?”
“Two months ago. When you went to see your dad.”
“…And what did they say?”
“Nothing. I think they’re happy for me. They said they want to meet you.”
“That’s… Nerve-wracking.”
“Don’t be nervous. I told them we’d be at my parents’ house today. So get ready.”
“Wait. What?!”
Before I knew it, I was in the driver’s seat. My knees were shaking. I couldn’t even grip the steering wheel properly. My palms were soaked with sweat.
“Babe,” Josh said, gently. “There’s no need to be nervous. They’re going to fall head over heels for you just like I did. Now come on, they’re waiting.”
I didn’t say a word the whole drive.
When we arrived, Josh paused at the front door. He gave me a kiss and a reassuring smile.
His mom opened the door. “Joshie! What happened to you? Are you okay?!”
Joshie?
“Hi, Ma. I’ll tell you later, I’m fine. Um… This is the absolute love of my life. Sean, my fiancé.”
“Hello. Nice to meet you,” I said, awkwardly.
“Oh my God, you’re so handsome. Come here.”
She pulled me into a warm, strong hug. She cupped my face and kissed my forehead.
“Frank! Come here, Sean’s here!”
Down came a tall, older man who looked like an older version of Josh, with a gray beard and a stern expression.
“So you’re the one taking our Joshie away from us. How dare you step into my house?”
Gulp.
“Haha! I’m just kidding. Come give your father-in-law a hug.”
He pulled me into a bear hug and kissed my cheek.
“You were right, Joshie. He’s good-looking. I can see why you switched teams.”
“Dad!” Josh whined.
Josh hugged me from behind with his good arm, pulling me away.
“Both of you stop kissing him and hugging him. He’s an engaged man. He’s mine.”
My face turned red. Embarrassing.
A voice called out, “So possessive! It’s hilarious seeing this side of you… Hi, Sean. I’m Mari. Josh’s older sister.”
Then came the parade of siblings. Everyone was warm, friendly, all huggers. It was like seeing six versions of Josh at once. I’d been nervous, but they made me feel welcome immediately.
We ate, drank, and talked for hours. Chaos at the dinner table. People talking over each other, laughing, asking me a million questions. It was overwhelming… but fun.
Just before we left, Ricky came up to us.
“I talked to my real estate agent friend. I told her the area you were looking for, and I think she found the perfect spot for you two.”
I’d love to hear your thoughts!
